Research studies on legislation or discourses of law have gained importance because they are seen as discourses of legitimation ruling social, cultural and individual practices and because they are also seen as institutional, racist and discriminatory discourses. In that sense, the present doctoral research entitled “The Discursive Construction of Indigenous’ Otherness in Colombian General Education Acts (1870-1994)” studies discursive structures, mechanisms and argumentative paradigms used to represent the indigenous people in educational policy. This also illustrates implications for the Republican state educational project throughout two centuries. This study draws on the research emphasis on Discourse, Discrimination and School and draws theoretically on Critical Discourse Analysis within a historical approach.
