Imagining Iberia
The purpose of this interdisciplinary research symposium is to study the fortune of the idea of Iberia from the Middle Ages to the present, paying particular attention to the fluctuating relations between Portugal, Castile, Aragon, Navarre and overseas territories, before and after the emergence of ''Spain''. The symposium will address not only political and commercial links, but also the circulation of ideas and cultural artefacts (literary texts, painting, music) between the various regions of Iberia and its colonies in the New World, Africa and Asia; The Organizers also welcome studies on the way Iberia is imagined from outside or from below, for example, by French, Italian or English travellers, or by colonized peoples. Proposals (250-400 words) should be sent by e-mail to:Rip CohenE-mail: rip.cohen@kcl.ac.ukDeadline: 17 February 2007.
