9th Annual Symposium on Contemporary Narrative
Guest speakers include the authors: Albalucía Ángel, Luisa Valenzuela, Elena Araújo, Cecilia Vicuña*, and Edmée Pardo. (*pending confirmation)In order to coincide with Albalucía Ángel's presence in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese as writer in residence and her preparation of the book 'De vuelta del silencio', a collection of interviews with Latin American women writers spanning a period of twenty years, this symposium will reflect on the changes in Latin American women¿s writing over this period; changes in politics and poetics, subjects and contexts. A number of writers from Ángel's original cohort, together with more recently published authors will be talking about developments in their work and their relationship to a broader canon of Latin American women's writing.Submissions are invited from scholars of Latin American women's writing and feminist theory, either on the work of individual authors listed above, or theoretical studies of developments in Latin American women's writing over the last twenty years with particular relevance to the participating authors. Proposals from postgraduates are also welcome. A collection of papers presented at the symposium will be submitted to the Legenda (MHRA) series.Brief abstracts with title (200 words max.) for 20-minute papers should be sent by 15 April 2005 to Dr Thea Pitman, Department of Spanish and Portuguese, University of Leeds, Leeds, LS2 9JT, UK.
